SERVICE

In addition to my teaching, research and publication responsibilities, I have been intensely involved in service activities, both at the University and in the archival and allied professions.

Internationally and nationally, I have served in the following roles:

In addition to being President of both the Society of American Archivists (SAA, 1998-99) and the Association of Canadian Archivists (ACA, 2016-18), I have carried out several service activities for both associations.

Of particular importance has been my work with their education committees, involving the writing of educational guidelines. In 1989, the Association of Canadian Archivists (ACA) published its "Guidelines for the Development of a Two-Year Curriculum for a Master of Archival Studies Programme," and so did the Society of American Archivists in 1994. The UBC MAS program's current curriculum reflects the guidelines, which still represent the Canadian standard for archival education.

On the basis of those guidelines, in 2020 I designed the Master in Records management and Archival Studies (MiRAS) for the Sorbonne Abu Dhabi (UAE), and I remain an Advisor for the program.

With funding from the International Council on Archives, InterPARES and the United Arab Emirates National Archives, and with the collaboration of many colleagues from around the world, I have created and continue to be the general administrator of the ICA Multilingual Archival Terminology (MAT) database (ciscra.org/mat).
